Gardeners' Gathering

 

The purpose of the Gardeners' Gatherings is to educate Master Gardeners and the public in latest trends, information and research in horticulture education. The gatherings during each year are led by experts in the field and last approximately two hours in length. All lectures begin at 6:30 pm, are free and open to the public.

Thursday, March 28 - 6:30 pm "Invasive Tree Pests are Changing our Landscape" at Kauffman Foundation Conference Center, 4801 Rockhill Road, KCMO.  Rob Lawrence, Missouri Department of Conservation State Entomologist, will speak about Emerald Ash Borer as it will affect the Kansas City Metro. Thursday, April 18 - 6:30 pm "Will Landscape for Food: What Works in an Edible Landscape that can Work for You" at Kauffman Foundation Conference Center, 4801 Rockhill Road, KCMO. Thursday June 20 - 6:30 pm "Pulling Weeds: The Down Side of Gardening" at Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, KCMO. Dennis Patton, K-State Research and Extension Horticulture Agent, Johnson County, KS, will speak about a garden nemesis: weeds which are genetically designed to geminate grow and propagate faster than desirable plants.  Learn the techniques to identify, stop the spread, time appropriate treatment options and win the war on weeds. Thursday, August 15 - 6:30 pm "The Beanstalk Garden is for Grown Ups Too!" at 6917 Kensington Avenue, KCMO.   Ben Sharda, Executive Director, Kansas City Community Gardens, will lead a tour of the Beanstalk Garden which highlights plants grown locally as well as around the world. Adults will delight in seeing this children's garden learning about new, common, strange and unusual edible plants. Free and open to the public. No registration required. Door prizes. Thursday, Oct 17 - 6:30 pm "Sustainably Designed Food Growing".  Location TBA.   Michael Almon, Kansas Permaculture Collaborative and the Sustainability Action Network, will speak about creating an ecologically sound, economically prosperous human community that is guided by the ethical of care for the earth, care for people, reducing waste, sharing the surplus and working towards a sustainable future.
