Volunteer Opportunity for EMGs & MMNs

Volunteers Needed for the 5th Annual Pollinator Festival

Saturday, June 24, 2023

9:30 am to 11:30 am

St. Paul Community Garden

36th Street and Sterling Ave.

Independence MO 64052

(Rain-out date is Sunday, June 25; 2:00-4:00 p.m.)

This event will earn volunteer service hours for both EMGs and MMNs.

Volunteers Needed:

  • Childrens’ Butterfly Art Project- staff a table where children will make a take-home butterfly craft
  • Mason Bee Specialist- review the resource material provided at the table and talk to guests about the biology of mason bees; offer guests a free mason bee house to take home
  • Native Plant Garden Advisor/Tour guide- be familiar about the importance of native plants; advise guests on how to create their own native plant garden; resource information has been prepared to share with the guests
  • Bug Wrangler- guide youth on how to use an insect net (some are provided); help identify the insects that are caught (and released!). A table with insect identification resources will be provided.

This event is intended to educate and motivate guests to value our native pollinators who make over 1/3 of our food possible by their ecological services of pollination. Creating habitat for these creatures on our own property is an important investment for our future. Inspiring our youth’s curiosity for our insects will create future stewards of our environment.
