The parents of the homeowner were members of the Bonsai Society of Kansas City prompting hislove of conifers and a Mid-Century Modern, Zen ambiance. A pair of white foo dogs representing “ying and yang”welcome the visitor. Notice the furniture and bar handcrafted by the homeowner’s brother. There is a lovely berm graced with a columnar blue spruce and two other conifers that were planted when about eight inches tall and have now reached seven feet. Japanese maples and rose drifts add textural interest. The terrain at the rear of the house is sculpted into graceful curvilinear shapes and cut natural stone blocks define planting beds filled with a variety of plant material. Minimalist lighting fixtures border the central planting area.
