Powell Gardens

1609 NW US HWY 50, Kingsville, MO

Powell Gardens is Kansas City’s major botanical garden.  Celebrating the Midwestern spirit of place, it includes the 12-acre Heartland Harvest Garden, the world largest edible landscape, as well as large areas of prairie grasses and flowers, reflective of the tall grass prairie that once covered most of this region.  Other highlights include an island garden with 200 varieties of water plants, the largest “living wall” rock garden in North America, and a woodland garden featuring azaleas, rhododendrons and masses of other shade loving perennials.  Extension Master Gardeners and other community volunteers work at the direction of Powell Gardens’ professional horticulture staff to maintain the garden.
