Speaker Information

John (Smitty) Smith

John Smith (aka “Smitty”) became a Master Gardener in 2020 by completing the MU Extension of Kansas City training courses plus 100+ hours of volunteer service to public outreach-community gardens around the KC metro.

His focus at home is on vegetable gardening plus cultivating his own strawberry patch, now in its 5th year. Pollinators with the use of regional natives and heirloom plants; in addition to standard ornamentals round out his horticultural interests.  While spending time in his own garden, he enjoys growing fresh food for his family.  As a volunteer, Smitty donates his skills and guidance to local “at risk” youngsters and their Safe House Garden.
