Master Gardeners of Greater KC Plant Sale News!!

Spring is here, or so the calendar says! Since the weather has been so chilly, we are getting a slow start on our dig and divide. However, that is only a part of our annual plant sale. The plants that everyone looks forward to are the showy annuals that can be found at our sale!

To assist you, we will have available thousands of annuals and perennials for your shopping pleasure. We will also have Master Gardeners on site to help you with your plant selections. The plants we are offering have been selected for this part of Missouri. The perennials you will purchase are proven winners as they have been grown by local MGGKC members in their own yards. These plants have been dug up and divided from their own prized specimens. After extensive research, our plant team selected the following three wholesale growers to provide a variety of annuals and natives for the plant sale that are well suited for our area.

Critsite, Belton, MO   The largest producer in the Midwest of native plants, trees and shrubs. They have four production facilities plus a Prairie and Wetland Center. They grow and market over two million plants annually and are committed to excellence and to the success of every landscape project they supply.

Missouri Wildflower Nursery, Jefferson City, MO   Since 1984, we’ve been growing and selling native plants and seeds. Missouri is the genetic origin of our plants, so they are best adapted to states east of the Rockies.

Ramer’s Flowers, California, MO Ramer’s has very high standards for growing. Have you ever gone to buy the perfect plant for that small spot, only to have it come back the next year three times bigger? That is from the use of growth regulators. Ramer’s will not use growth regulators for their plants, so what you see is organic and well grown. They also will not use pesticides unless absolutely necessary, unlike so many other growers in our area.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our sale, May 4th and 5th.
