SESSION DESCRIPTION:

The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) recently completed a regional forestry assessment that estimates the region’s 250 million trees produce over $233 million in air quality, energy conservation and carbon sequestration benefits. One key strategy for protecting vital forestry assets is the development of municipal tree-protection ordinances. This workshop will begin with an overview of local and national tree-protection ordinances, with an analysis of the key elements that lead to more sustainable urban forest management practices. Presentations will be followed by discussion among workshop participants to evaluate what local policy measures most effectively support community forestry goals.
