“Insects in the Garden” workshop

This free workshop starts at noon, May 17 at the Kansas City Community Gardens, 6917 Kensington Ave., Kansas City, MO. To learn more or to register, call Earlene at 816-931-3877.

7th Annual Citywide Seed, Plant and Bulb Exchange

Date: May 18, 2013
Time: 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
Details:Spring is in full swing, and if you are looking to add a few new plant varieties to your garden, be sure to stop by the 7th Annual Citywide Seed, Plant and Bulb Exchange hosted by Seed Savers of Greater Kansas City. Everyone takes home about the same amount that they bring to the exchange, only all new to them. And those who come without anything to trade are still able to choose a few varieties because many participants bring such a large number to share.

A few tips for first-timers:

  • Bring in plants you have grown from seed or transplanted from the garden several weeks before so they are well established by the time of the exchange.
  • Label each pot. Venetian blinds can be cut up into great plant tags.
  • Don’t bring invasive plants, weeds, or species that are very common (like the orange day lily-very few want to trade for it.)
  • It’s a good idea to bring extra pots, labels, trays, boxes and sacks because some participants bring things unpotted.

This free exchange is from 9:30 a.m. – noon, May 18 at Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center, 4750 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO. For more information, visit www.seedsaverskc.org or call 816-356-9892.
